I’ve mentioned that I’m moving into a new position. I met with the person who has it now to review a report that he puts together every month. He took me through this convoluted process where he copies information from an Excel spreadsheet into a Word document, uses search and replace to reformat it, and copies it into another spreadsheet. He said that he usually spends the day on Sunday assembling it.
He sent me a copy of this month’s spreadsheet so I could put it together. I went to our internal AI website, told it what I needed to do, and had it write a script to do it. It took a few iterations, but after an hour I had a reusable script that reformatted the data in about 1 second. Don’t tell anyone.
