My mail is screwed up. When I was staying in NC I submitted a temporary change of address so I could get mail there. When I got home I submitted another one effective 8 July. I haven’t received any mail since then. I went to my post office yesterday to try to get it straightened out. They said someone would call me, but no one did. I put in a service request on the USPS web site today. I’m supposed to hear back in 1-3 business days. Meantime I’ve had some package deliveries get returned to sender. I’m also hoping that the loan papers for the car don’t get lost.
Whenever someone complains about government bureaucracy and incompetence I’m quick to point out that plenty of private sector organizations are just as bad; but that doesn’t mean that government bureaucracy and incompetence doesn’t exist.
I drove to NC this evening. I have a follow up orthopedic surgeon appointment tomorrow and I’m house sitting while Logan and Maryann go to Lexington to help Rae move to Raleigh.
Yesterday I went to the county tag office to register my car. It turns out my title has the wrong odometer mileage recorded. They gave me an exception form that the seller and I have to complete. I called the dealership that sold me the car and had a conversation with the person in the finance department that went something like this.
“The title you gave me with the rest of the paperwork has the wrong mileage recorded.”
“I didn’t give you a title.”
“I’m looking right at it.”
“I never give anyone titles.”
“Regardless of how I got it, I have it, and the mileage is wrong. Can we focus on the solution?”
“Did you get a package in the mail from us with paperwork?”
“Yes.”
“That’s where you got the title. I never give titles to anyone.”
“Okay. Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s talk about how we fix it.”
