Given this site’s name I’d be remiss if I didn’t remind you that the U.S. is averaging about 90,000 reported COVID-19 cases a day this week. That’s an 8% drop from last week, but what I find more interesting is that it’s higher than the weekly average during the summer of 2020, when most of us were in serious lockdown, mask wearing mode and there was no vaccine.

On Thursday I got a refund from Amazon for a PS5 that was apparently lost in transit. Today I went to the local Amazon Hub Counter to pick up a different order. It turns out they had the PS5 as well. This evening I called Amazon to let them know and have them reverse the refund. I figured this would send them into a tailspin and I was right. I spoke to four different people over the course of about 30 minutes.

I’ll give them credit, though. Everyone was professional and polite. I thought they might tell me that I had to return the item because they had already issued the refund, but they didn’t. Good for them.

Also, apparently Amazon has a Retro-charge Team. Who knew?

I may have found a way around my USPS address change problem. Last week when I was in NC I put my mail on hold to see what would happen. Sure enough, when I checked my mailbox today I had mail; some of it from late June with yellow “Unable to forward” labels. I’m putting my mail on hold from Monday – Saturday until further notice.

You may have read that Sony’s PlayStation 5 video game console is almost impossible to find. Amazon started offering them by invitation only; you request an invitation and if you’re selected you can buy one. I requested an invitation, received one, and placed an order. I received a delivery confirmation shortly thereafter with a planned delivery date. That date came and went. Tracking showed that it was out for delivery on 15 August. That was the last update. Yesterday I contacted Amazon customer support and was told that the package was lost. It wasn’t eligible to be replaced so they gave me a refund. My guess is that it wasn’t shipped in an Amazon box or someone figured out the contents if it was, because my suspicion is that it fell off the back of the truck. I’m not upset about it. It’s not something I need, and it’s amusing, in its own way.
