It was sunny and a little cool here today. Earlier this evening some kids were riding a go kart on our street. Someone had “I’ll Be There” by The Four Tops playing. It felt like a normal spring day, which is good.
A neighbor takes a motorcycle ride a couple of times a day. Today part of me wanted to yell at him to stay inside, but then I told myself that I’m not his father. He probably just needs to get out of the house for a while.
I attended a webinar today about church finances. While that was going on someone sent me an instant message about something going on at my paying job. While I was pretending to multitask I made a note to be grateful that I’m gainfully employed.
John Prine died yesterday of complications from COVID-19. I was introduced to his music either late in high school or my freshman year in college by either Rob Gorley or the late, great Mark Evans. We knew every song on his 1976 compilation album, Prime Prine, by heart. I have fond memories of those songs, especially “Grandpa Was a Carpenter,” because it reminded me so much of my family. My maternal grandfather was a carpenter and took me to church on Sundays where there was stained glass in every window and hearing aids in every pew. My paternal grandmother smoked Camel cigarettes. A maternal great aunt who was a third grandmother was a teacher, although she went to school in Richmond, not Bowling Green. She bought me comic books.
Mark had an affinity for “Come Back to Us Barbara Lewis Hare Krishna Beauregard” especially the lyric “God save her please, she’s nailed her knees to some drugstore parking lot.”
And of course there’s this.
And while this song isn’t on Prime Prine, it’s a classic. I hold back tears whenever I hear it.
Other artists loved him, including Bill Murray and Hunter S. Thompson. What better endorsements can you get?
As someone said recently, the short weekend is over and the long weekend begins. Passover and Holy Week are underway. Make of that what you will.
I get most of what I share here from Twitter. The tone there has become decidedly more somber as COVID-19 cases and fatalities increase. But I believe we need to remain vigilant but positive, and I hope these posts help you with the positivity. I know it helps me.
Stay safe and healthy.

You should watch Rick and Morty, by the way.

Busy day today. I attended virtual church, did some research on an SBA loan for church payroll, did yard work, ripped DVDs, and converted more videotapes. Rachel did some more dorm unpacking and room arranging. Back to work and classes tomorrow. Stay healthy and safe.
I went out today to pick up something at Best Buy. (Curbside delivery is great. I wish they’d do it all of the time.) I was a little surprised to see that the Lowe’s parking lot was packed. I guess people are still working around the house and gardening. Maybe more so.
A couple of videos from yesterday’s post were broken, but they’re fixed now.
Another weekend. Our weather is getting warmer here. I’ll probably try to get some yard work done, especially since I can’t pay anyone to do it right now.
Rachel and I watched Knives Out this evening, which I highly recommend. Stay healthy and safe.
I found out earlier this week that all bonuses for the year have been canceled due to lost revenue from the pandemic. I’m not complaining. I still have a job. If they cut my budget for next year, then I’ll worry.
Welcome to April. In addition to working, I’ve spent the day converting miniDV tapes and DVDs to video files. I also learned that half a bag or tortilla chips is enough for a pint of salsa. Who knew? Not me.
