I watched Zack Snyder’s Justice League today. It was dark. The lighting was dark. The plot was dark. Superman was in a dark grayscale outfit instead of the traditional blue, red, and yellow. It wasn’t a fun movie.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe movies are fun. They’re bright and shiny. The heroes face serious challenges (serious within the realm of comic book movies, anyway; I recognize that we’re not watching Martin Scorsese cinema here) but they have plenty of moments of levity. I’ve been watching them over and over during the pandemic. I doubt that I’ll return to this movie.

I was in the DC camp growing up. Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Justice League; those were the comics I read. I don’t read many superhero comics these days. I’ll read a Batman comic every now and then, but they’re usually SO. DAMN. SERIOUS. Come on, DC. Ever since Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns you’ve been in this depressing world. Marvel’s showing you how to do it. Do better.

Stay healthy and safe.

Made an appointment to get my first COVID vaccination next Tuesday. I have to drive 1.5 hours each way because that’s the closest there’s any availability, but hey. You do what you have to do.

Stay healthy and safe.
