The COVID-19 Diary: Thursday 14 July

Dentist appointment take two. I’m having a filling replaced. As I sit down I remark that sitting and standing is a little difficult because I recently had knee surgery.

My dentist says, “You had knee surgery? Is there any metal in your knee?”

“Yeah, a pin,” I reply.

My dentist tells me that I can’t have the procedure done until they talk to my orthopedic surgeon. Apparently there’s a risk of infection and I may need to take an antibiotic. I give them the contact information for my doctor and they give me a prescription. They tell me not to get it filled until I hear from them. Once this is resolved I can reschedule my appointment. Fortunately I’m only 15 minutes away from the dentists’ office.

Dentist appointment, take one.

“Hi, I’m here for my 9:40 appointment.”

The receptionist looks at their computer for several seconds and says, “Mr. Bandy, your appointment is tomorrow.”

I check the confirmation text they sent me and say, “You’re right. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

I put it in my calendar for the 13th and didn’t bother to check the date in the text. Fortunately I’m only 15 minutes away from the dentists’ office.

Back to work after a week off. It was quiet. We also started our new fiscal year. It’s the first time in years that I haven’t had to manage any year end tasks, which contributed to the quiet.

I like quiet. Quiet is good.

The COVID-19 Diary: Saturday 09 July

I watched the Season 3 finale of The Boys today. The show is completely over the top with respect to language, sexual content, violence, and anything else that might be considered offensive. It’s also one of the best shows on TV right now. It’s probably the best deconstruction of the superhero genre since Alan Moore’s Watchmen comic book series. Worth your time if you enjoy that kind of thing and can handle a show that carries a strong TV-MA rating.

Larry Storch passed away. He’ll be remembered for many roles, probably most notably as Corporal Randolph Agarn in F Troop. I prefer to remember him this way.
