During the coverage of Queen Elizabeth II’s death today it was mentioned more than once that during her seventy year reign she only took three vacations as a private citizen. All of them were to Kentucky. She visited Kentucky five times altogether.

During her visit in 1986 she attended Morning Prayer at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Versailles. The rector at the time was Carl Belden, who had been in my Great Aunt Mary’s first grade class at McKinney Elementary School in Hustonville, KY. He was a great source of comfort to my family when she passed away and gave one of the eulogies at her funeral. She meant that much to him.

I share this because it’s a reminder to me that we’re all connected, often more closely than we think. We should care about and for each other, regardless of any differences. I think the story of a priest that held a service attended by a monarch and preached at a schoolteacher’s funeral is a good example of that.

Here’s a news report of the Queen’s visit to St. John’s. Side note: Former KY Governor A. B. “Happy” Chandler was also Commissioner of Baseball when Jackie Robinson became the first African American to play in Major League Baseball in the modern era.

And Ms. Eureth White had to sit clear across the church.

Good news from the doctor. My knee has healed to the point where he doesn’t need to see me until next May unless I have a problem. He wants me to come in for a one year follow up.

I need to keep working on getting back to normal, e.g., being able to stand up without pain and taking stairs normally.

Stay healthy and safe.

Amazon released the first two episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power yesterday. I believe that releasing the first two episodes was unexpected. Word is that the powers that be felt the first episode was kind of slow (it was) so they needed to get the second episode out at the same time, as it had more action.

I watched them both. It’s a fine show so far. Nothing groundbreaking. Just a fun way to spend an evening.

In other news I solved the WiFi connectivity issue I mentioned yesterday.

Stay healthy and safe.

I’ve been playing around with my home network. My goal is to set up a separate WiFi network for devices I don’t want to have internet access, such as smart light bulbs, while still being able to access them from my phone, which would stay on my main WiFi network. I’ve figured out the first part but the second part is working yet. I’ll tackle that tomorrow.

Stay healthy and safe.
